Just spotted this comapany "Mobile Locate" offering a location service in the UK with both a personal and corporate angle: http://www.mobilelocate.co.uk/index.htm.
Location services and the mobile are a very interesting subject and a mystery to most. The mystery being why have the mobile phone operators really failed to cash in on the unique value added context of location?
Location has been a hot topic in the past, but interest from the operators died when complicated business models that required value to come from using location context as part of a number of related sservices was difficult to grasp. Most companies fail to build business cases for enabling services that support other products!
Location is obviously challenging because of the inhernent legislation, regualtory and natural dislike of individuals to have their privacy violated.
Will give this service a try! Looks like it will be using some kind of cell id based approach for the location fix.
